Robert Nottage Olympia
No service will be held for Robert C. “Bob” Nottage, 72. Olympic Funeral Home in Tumwater, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
A 21-year Olympia resident, Mr. Nottage died Jan. 1. He was born in Spokane.
He graduated from North Central High school in 1946 and the School of Modern Photography in New York in 1963.
He served in the Army from 1945 to 1946.
He married Carol Nicholaisen in 1947; they later divorced.
Mr. Nottage worked in sales for John W. Graham Co. from 1937 to 1966, and from 1966 to 1969 worked with the Mental Health After Care Clinic of Spokane. He later was the department head of social services at Spokane Valley General Hospital from 1969 to 1978.
He married Bonnie Hurd in 1977 and they moved to Olympia in 1978.
Mr. Nottage was the manager of the camera department at J.C. Penney’s in Olympia from 1978 to 1987.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Andrew Nottage of Molalla, Ore., and Roger Nottage of Graham, Wash; six stepchildren; 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Dale Pierce Port Townsend, Wash.
No service will be held for Dale Wayne Pierce, 82, at his request. Kosec Funeral Home in Port Hadlock, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pierce, who was born in Odessa, Wash., died Dec. 31.
He graduated from Rogers High School and served with the Army in Australia and New Guinea during World War II.
He worked for the Great Northern Railroad before moving to Port Townsend from Spokane in 1959.
Mr. Pierce began working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1963 and later became the assistant postmaster. He retired in 1980.
His wife of 57 years, Norma Jean, died in 1999.
Survivors include three sons, Danny, David and Doug Pierce, and a daughter, Donna Noble, all of Port Townsend; a brother, Ralph Pierce Jr. of Lake Stevens, Wash.; a sister, Margaret Kirsten of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
Wallace Blackhurst Spokane
Service for Wallace M. Blackhurst, 92, was Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1212 W. Francis. Burial followed at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Blackhurst, who was born in American Fork, Utah, died Sunday.
He graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City.
Mr. Blackhurst moved to Spokane in 1964 from Butte, Mont.
He worked in the egg production department at Safeway for 30 years and retired in 1972.
Mr. Blackhurst was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bernice; two sons, Brad Blackhurst of Redmond, Wash., and Wallace Blackhurst of Bountiful, Utah; two daughters, Martha Smith of Spokane and Elizabeth Richardson of McAllen, Texas; 34 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Michael Boros Everett
Memorial service for Michael E. Boros, 52, was held Friday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home in Spokane. Burial was at the Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa, Wash. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa was in charge of arrangements.
Born in Spokane, Mr. Boros died Sunday.
As a child his family lived in Tekoa. They moved back to Spokane in 1954, and he graduated from University High School in 1966.
He served in the Air Force during the late 1960s and served during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Boros returned to Spokane and worked as a heavy-equipment operator in construction in Washington, Oregon, Montana and California.
He moved to Kent, Wash., 12 years ago and worked for the Snohomish Wash.) County Public Utility Department in Everett.
Mr. Boros recently moved to Everett.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Snohomish.
Survivors include his parents, Joseph and Lucille Boros of Spokane; and two sisters, Stacy Kuhling of Spokane and Janet Hutsell of East Wenatchee, Wash.
Sheila Jones Kirkland, Wash.
Memorial service for Sheila Margaret Jones, 53, was held Saturday at Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane at a later date.
Born in Spokane, Mrs. Jones died Dec. 30.
She graduated from Marycliff High School and later received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Eastern Washington University.
Mrs. Jones worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines, as a recruiter for Fort Wright College in Spokane and also worked as a liaison for McCarthy Management Association. She also had worked for Atwood-Hinzman and sold real estate for Corker and Jones Real Estate and Insurance.
She graduated with a masters degree in human resources from Gonzaga University in 1984.
Mrs. Jones moved to California and worked with Airspace Technology and the Travelers Insurance Co., where she was the human resource manager in San Diego for five years.
She moved to Kirkland in 1991 and worked in human resources at Washington Mutual Bank in the Lynnwood, Wash. area.
Survivors include two brothers, Maurice Jones of Spokane and Jeffrey Jones of Dove Canyon, Calif.; and two sisters, Janet Bluhm of Kirkland and Theresa White of Beaverton, Ore.
Mary Northcott Spokane
Service for Mary Myers Northcott, 81, was held Friday at the Methow Valley United Methodist Church in Twisp, Wash.
Mrs. Northcott, who was born in Twisp, died Monday.
She was a 36-year Spokane resident.
Mrs. Northcott worked as a delicatessen manager at Rosauers. She retired at the age of 75.
Survivors include two sons, James Northcott of Spokane and John Northcott of Winthrop, Wash.; two daughters, Barbara Wagoner and Dawn Cockle, both of Spokane; a brother, William Myers of Caneyville, Ky.; a sister, Fern Reynaud of Twisp; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Nina (Giles) Smart Garfield, Wash.
Service for Nina B. (Giles) Smart, 89, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Burial will follow at the Garfield Cemetery.
A longtime Garfield resident, Mrs. Smart died Thursday.
She was born in Knoxville, Tenn.
Her family moved to Sprague, Wash., in 1916, and she graduated from Sprague High School in 1928.
In 1929 she married Oliver Smart, and they lived in Montana until moving to Garfield.
Mrs. Smart was a homemaker and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Her husband died in 1976.
Survivors include a brother, Ray Giles of Cheney; and a sister, Edith Rowe of Burlington, Wash.
Harley Manz Spokane
Memorial service for Harley P. Manz, 62, was held Saturday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Manz died Wednesday.
He graduated from Otis Orchards High School in 1955.
Mr. Manz served in the Air National Guard and worked as a logger for M&M Logging Inc.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Geri; two sons, Victor Manz of Spokane and Scott Manz of Newman Lake; two daughters, Sue Ewan of Spokane and Jennifer Kline of Newman Lake; three brothers, Earl, Harold and Kenneth Manz; a sister, Joyce Bergman; and five grandchildren.
Marion Case Spokane
No service will be held for Marion A. Case, 82, at his request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 55-year Spokane resident, Mr. Case died Tuesday.
He was born in Tecumseh, Okla., and served in the Army from 1943 to 1946.
Mr. Case worked as an electrician for a local sign company.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474, the Eagles Lodge Aerie 2 and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 77.
Mr. Case is survived by his wife, Muriel.
Lester Olson Mount Hope
Graveside service for Lester Olson, 79, was held Wednesday at the Mount Hope Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield was in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Mount Hope resident, Mr. Olson died Saturday.
He graduated from Rockford High School in 1938 and was a farmer in the Mount Hope area.
He was a charter member of the Rockford Gun Club.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Elda; two sons, Jon Olson of Fairfield and Jeff Olson of Moscow, Idaho; a brother, Edward Olson of Fairfield; and two grandchildren.
Phillip Gaffney Spokane
Memorial service for Phillip L. Gaffney, 69, will be at 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Gaffney died Dec. 25.
He served in the Air Force from 1949 to 1955 and later worked in maintenance at Kaiser Aluminum.
He was a member of Valley Eagles Arie 3433 and United Steelworkers of America Union Local 338.
His wife, Dorreen, died in 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Rory Gaffney of Spokane and Michael Gaffney of Salt Lake City; a sister, Colleen Collins of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
Mary Harder Spokane
Service for Mary C. Harder, 86, will be at 10 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Harder died Wednesday.
Mrs. Harder worked as a secretary for the Washington state Highway Department for 25 years.
Her husband, Donald, died in 1978.
Survivors include a sister, Billie Kroske of Redmond, Ore.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Phyllis (Chittick) Myers Seattle
Service for Phyllis (Chittick) Myers, 58, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the World of Paridise Church in Kent, Wash. Molalla (Ore.) Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Mason City, Wash., Mrs. Myers died Dec. 30.
She was a 15-year Spokane resident and worked as a waitress for the Spokane Police Guild.
Mrs. Myers recently moved to Seattle and was a member of the Word of Paridise Church.
Survivors include her husband of 15 years, John; two daughters, Shelly Peterson of Spokane and Tanja Rivelli of Molalla; her mother, Marie Chittick of Spokane; a sister, Willene Kline of Spokane; and six grandchildren.
