Fire investigators suspect a smoldering cigarette or lighted candle ignited a blaze that killed a Spokane man last week, they said Tuesday.

Hoa Duc Pham, 23, died Thursday inside his home in the 100 block of East Greta.

Pham, who was co-owner of a nail salon on East Francis, was found unconscious in the basement of the house about 7:15 a.m. He was taken by ambulance to Holy Family Hospital where he was declared dead.

No one else was in the house at the time of the fire.
