A Valley man was arrested for drug possession last week after a traffic stop.

Gerald D. Pittman, 49, 13315 E. Rich, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after the car he was riding in was stopped for running a stop light in the 5400 block of North Evergreen Road.

The white Suburu was stopped by sheriff’s deputies at 7:15 p.m. The driver, Debra Bylund, 41, 12428 E. Broadway, was driving with a suspended license. She was cited for the license and stop light infractions and arrested.

Since Pittman was allegedly not wearing his seat belt, a deputy searched the car. The deputy noticed the carpet under Pittman’s seat had been pulled up and found a syringe and a small amount of a substance believed to be methamphetamine in a clear plastic bag.

Pittman was booked to the Spokane County Jail.
