Sizzling Arizona Fights Backs To Overrun Washington State

Tatum Brown made 9 of 11 field goals and Arizona overcame a 13-point deficit to defeat Washington State 83-68 in a Pacific-10 Conference game Thursday night at Friel Court.

WSU led 17-4 just more than 4 minutes into the game. Arizona (13-2, 2-1) whittled away at the lead and took a 39-36 edge into halftime on Monika Crank’s last-second 3-pointer.

Arizona’s Lisa Griffith hit two 3-pointers to start the second half, and the Wildcats soon added a 9-0 run.

Alke Dietel scored 23 points for the Cougars (3-10, 0-3).

Washington 78, Arizona St. 76

Jill Pimley hit two free throws with 11 seconds left to give the Huskies (5-10, 1-2 Pac-10) a comeback win over the Sun Devils (9-5, 2-1) at Seattle.

ASU tied the game on Theresa Jantzen’s two free throws with 17.6 seconds left. Pimley put Washington ahead for good on the following possession.

Northern Arizona 53, EWU 46

Reserve Niesha Whitman scored all eight of her points during a 3-1/2-minute span of the second half to lift the Lumberjacks (6-9, 2-1 Big Sky) over the Eagles (4-9, 0-3) at Flagstaff, Ariz.

The score was tied at 35 with 7:07 left before Whitman made three layups and two free throws to charge an 8-2 run.

EWU had trailed 20-10 with 2:38 left in the first half, but Julie Moore scored eight points to lead a 14-0 run that ended 2-1/2 minutes into the second half.

The Lumberjacks have defeated EWU five consecutive times in Flagstaff and eight of nine overall.
