Malone Delivers For Gonzaga

College women

It was a banner night for Jessica Malone and the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

Malone, a sophomore, tossed in a career-high 27 points to lead Gonzaga to a 76-71 victory over the San Francisco Dons in a West Coast Conference basketball opener in San Francisco.

The win marks the first time the Bulldogs (8-6, 1-0) have won at USF since the 1988-89 season.

Malone hit a 3-pointer with less than 9 minutes remaining to pull the Bulldogs even at 60 and then found freshman Nathalie Chevallay for the go-ahead layup. Gonzaga never trailed after that.

Former Newport standout Carey Sauer scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Dons (7-7, 0-1).
