Spokane Selected By Nonprofit Group

From Staff

A San Jose-based nonprofit group that helps develop Christian churches overseas will relocate to Spokane this summer.

Partners International selected Spokane for its cost of living and quality of life, said spokeswoman Lynn Uesugi.

The decision to leave California was driven by high operating costs and skyrocketing property values, Uesugi said. Partners International has maintained its headquarters in California since 1957.

Spokane was selected from 10 cities considered.

Among the reasons for selecting Spokane was the city’s high commitment to church activism and philanthropy, said Mark Turner, president of the Spokane Area Economic Development Council.

About a dozen San Jose employees will move to Spokane. Another 15 positions will be filled locally, Uesugi said.

The organization helps establish Christian churches in about 50 countries.
