Gonzaga Vs. San Diego
Time, site: 3 p.m., USD Sports Center, San Diego.
TV: Fox Sports Northwest
Radio: KXLI (630 AM), with pre-game show starting 25 minutes prior to tipoff.
Summary: San Diego (11-5, 2-1 in the WCC) is coming off a 73-58 win over Portland and knows what it takes to compete against the two-time defending conference champion Bulldogs (13-5, 3-0). It was just last February that the Toreros humbled GU 75-59 in the Sports Center, snapping the Bulldogs’ nine-game winning streak and making sure their initial stay in the Top 25 rankings was a short one. USD has played GU as tough as any team in the WCC in recent years. Zags’ coach Mark Few is preaching caution to his team, despite the fact that they’ve won their first three league games by an average margin of more than 26 points. “This will be a whole new look for them,” Few said of the Toreros. “They’re running a three-guard lineup that has presented everybody with all kinds of matchup problems. They’re really, really quick, as opposed to years past when they’ve tried to pound you inside.” USD is paced offensively by freshman guard Andre Laws, who is averaging 14.7 points. Junior guard Cameron Rigby averages 11.1 points and 6.7 rebounds.
