The Class of 2003 has created a fanciful fund-raiser - a Renaissance Dinner on March 31. The dinner, with a medieval theme, will include a hearty meal and entertainment. Costumes and props are a must. Students hope to host the dinner through their senior year, when they’ll pass it on to another class as a fund-raiser.

There are eight new nursing assistants in Ferry County. The seven women and one man completed the 85-hour Nursing Assistant Certified course at Ferry County Memorial Hospital. They will take the state exam soon for final certification. Those completing the course were David Watts, Leahakai Kelly, Tia Ruck, Jeannie Zerck, Dorothy Anderson Cheryl Ramsey, Nikki Scriver and Karen Volluz.

Moses Lake
The Adam East Museum and Art Center is a popular place in the basin - so popular it needs a bigger building. The MAC, as it’s called, has 17 months to find a new building and the City Council is looking for a new location. The owners of the current location have another tenant in mind and will likely not renew the lease at its current rental price.
Lincoln County
Odessa
The city of Odessa is working to create an industrial park. A key element in the plan is forming a public development authority. Seven people have been named to the PDA by the town council, and the group should get up and cracking in the next two weeks. The town has a $22,500 grant to fund predevelopment of an industrial park through the PDA.
Pend Oreille County
Newport
At long last, the 42-unit assisted-living complex project is building steam. Plans for the complex have been sidetracked several times - last time over financing. U.S. Bank originally asked for a $250,000 guarantee that the Pend Oreille County Hospital District would honor the loan if the project failed or money became short. The bank then upped the amount to $750,000, which caused the latest diversion. U.S. Bank now says it will honor the original $250,000.

Mouldings from the demolished Administration Building at Lewis & Clark High School have been saved and will be used to create an artistic park bench in Riverfront Park.
Stevens County
Colville
History and music will merge Wednesday, Jan. 26, as the Colville Valley Community Concert Association welcomes tenor Robert Trentham. Trentham will perform “In Thinking of America,” a concert that includes songs, speeches, social commentary and letters from the Civil War. Trentham researched his family and found ancestors who lived and died on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line. For information on his concert, call (509) 684-6526.

The Whitman County American Red Cross is holding a blood drive, and hosting local classes in Ham radio and first aid and safety. Blood drives in Whitman County are the fourth Tuesday every month from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Cougar Depot in Pullman, and Feb. 1 in Colfax from noon to 6 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall. The Ham radio class begins the last week in January and runs nine weeks. Beginning CW (Morse Code), as well as materials for more advanced licenses will be covered, plus a review of new FCC rules. The class is offered in cooperation with the WSU Ham Radio Club and PHARC, a Moscow-based radio club. County commissioners recently rejected a proposal to build a jail above the Benewah Community Hospital expansion. The proposal was considered to be cost-effective, but security requirements and the need for separate electrical and ventilation systems proved otherwise. Commissioners now are considering building a two-story parking garage on county property at Eighth and College streets, near the courthouse. The jail would be on the third floor.

Sandpoint
Sandpoint will be featured nightly Jan. 24-28 on KAYU/Fox 28 television 10 p.m. news. “Our Town: Sandpoint,” will highlight the town’s recreational features, fine arts, many events, and entrepreneurial spirit. KAYU’s General Manager, Greg Graber, said Sandpoint will be the first community featured in a series.

The Boundary Head Start Program needs volunteers to aid four-year old students. Volunteers help supervise play time, read with children, assist with classroom prep work and in the kitchen. To volunteer call Christi Kramer at 267-5756.

Coeur d’Alene
Nanci Hawkins, employee at Rental Property Management, reported Wednesday to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department that she’d found 26 bikes in a garage on rental property. Hawkins said the former renters moved out and the home and garage were both left clean and empty. When she brought new renters to look at the property she discovered the bikes. According to the police report, the owner of the bikes is still unknown.

An educational/support group for men with prostate cancer and their wives was recently formed for people in Latah and Whitman counties. Its first meeting will be in March with Bruce Palmer, a clinical psychologist and retired professor who has lived with prostate cancer for over a year, Walt Miller, a retired Presbyterian minister, and John Randolph, a medical psychology graduate student. Palmer said the group is not a therapy group but is designed for sharing information and coping skills. A date and location for the meeting has not yet been decided.
Shoshone County
A new historical monument located at the Silver Mountain gondola base pays tribute to the Bunker Hill Mine. Project Uplift unveiled it during Kellogg’s Winter Festival and hopes it will be the first of many in the city. The monument portrays miners outside a portal in 1908. Project Uplift helped pay for the monument.

Libby
The Libby Subway restaurant along with all Montana Subways will donate five cents to the Montana Food Bank Network for every sandwich, salad or tortilla wrap bought through the end of January. Whatever amount the Libby Store raises it will be donated to the the Libby Food Pantry, said spokesman Paul Gadd of The Summit Group Communications, parent company of Subway.
