The county has purchased a building for storage. The Consolidated Grange building on Ritzville’s West First Avenue cost commissioners $80,000.

A host of Ferry County kids fared well at the Colville Elks Hoop Shoot earlier this month. Tyler Orestad and Derek Gianukakis both won their age groups, with Amanda Grumback taking second in the girls 10-11 age bracket. Other hot shots included Cameron Kroupa, Dillion Strandberg, Brandon Gregory, Sidney Jensen and Mallory Strandberg.

In the wake of an 18-year-old student making a “hit list” of teachers and students, a 15-year-old student has also been expelled for bringing BB guns to the bus stop in the Larson Housing area. The boy faces criminal charges, as the state considers a BB gun a dangerous weapon and the bus stop school property.

Reardan
Spokane prep basketball fans know about traditional rivalries such as the Rubber Chicken and Groovy Shoes. In Lincoln County, they battle for Ike the Pink Trike. In the first-ever spirit match between longtime rivals, Davenport swept the varsity basketball games from Reardan, and their fans earned the coveted Trike, which will be displayed at the high school until the sequel next January.

Ted Holden says he’s given all he’s got. The longtime city councilman stepped down from his position last week, saying the citizens of Newport deserve more than he can give them. The council has been the talk of the town over the past few months over sticky items such as local business licenses. Holden is the third council member to resign this particular seat in the past two years.

Tom Cornwell, a 25-year resident of Fairfield, Wash., was recently appointed to the Spokane County Air Pollution Control Authority board of directors. Cornwell will serve a four-year term as the board’s small cities and towns representative.

Chewelah
The Abominable Snowman lives. He’s a resident of Chewelah until the temperatures warm up. Dave and Challi Smith helped their children Brice and Davey build a 15-foot-tall snowman near their home last week. Of course, they had help from Jeff Horswell of Jump Off Joe Resort. The huge snowman not only dwarfed his arms, made of brooms, but made his hat - a large plastic garbage can - look a tad small.

The Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport Board will meet Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Pullman City Council chambers to discuss issues related to the PUW Hangar Association lease and consider an administrative services contract with the city of Pullman.

St. Maries
Four St. Maries graduates attending Lewis-Clark State College were honored recently. Briana Craner and Angela Epler both were named to the President’s List with a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher and Christopher Asburn and Christina Petrie were named to the Dean’s List with a grade-point average of 3.25 to 3.749.

Bonner County Public Works director Tim Elsea is trying to clear up confusion for residents about the county’s responsibility for maintenance on the Roop Road extension. Elsea sent a letter recently to a Cocolalla resident explaining the Public Works Department will not be responsible until the work is completed and inspected. Once it passes inspection the county commissioners can accept the road through a resolution or official map amendment.

Bonners Ferry
Medicare and Medicaid changes including reimbursement schedules, payment plans and costs to recipients will be covered at 11 a.m. March 28 at the Senior Citizens Center, Boundary County Community Hospital. Other topics include supplemental insurance, health issues and coverage and current legislation. Early registration is suggested as last year’s program filled quickly. Call 267-5553. Police responded recently to an accident report at Fourth Street and Lunceford Avenue. Officer J. Kiehn talked with Kathryn Burt, who said her ex-boyfriend, David Taylor, attempted to ram her car with his own vehicle, but ran into a post instead. Taylor was interviewed at his home and arrested for aggravated assault.

The high school boys Trojan basketball team took the lead against the Genesee Bulldogs only during the last eight seconds of the game last week. The Bulldogs had a three-point lead going into the final minute when Zak Payne of the Trojans scored a three-pointer with 30 seconds left. Travis Grieser was fouled and made one of two free throws to win the game 36-35.

City Council members approved a resolution recently that changes a dog violation into a municipal citation instead of a misdemeanor. The change benefits not only the dog’s owner but also the city. If the ticket is paid on time it won’t go on the individual’s record and the money will now stay in the city. Before, the city only received about $4 after court costs and taxes were taken out.

Libby
The city of Libby and Lincoln County received awards recognizing their efforts and contributions to “Project Impact: Building Disaster Resistant Communities” during the second annual Project Impact Summit recently in Washington, D.C. The Project Impact initiative shifts the focus from responding to disasters to taking actions to prevent a disaster’s effects. Libby and Lincoln County received the “Community Involvement” award for involving students of all grade levels in the project.
