Mexican Dip May Contain Bacteria

From Staff Reports

Idaho health officials are urging residents not to eat a packaged five-layer Mexican dip because it may contain bacteria that causes abdominal cramps, fever and bloody diarrhea.

Senor Felix’s 5-Layer Fiesta Dip in 16-, 20- and 40-ounce containers has been voluntarily recalled by its California maker because it may contain shigella bacteria.

One case of shigellosis has been reported in the Boise area, health officials say.

The dip was distributed in Idaho through Costco, according to the state Department of Health and Welfare.

Shigellosis symptoms usually develop within one to three days after eating contaminated food. Many sufferers get better on their own, but severe cases may require antibiotics.
