DaimlerChrysler co-chairman Robert Eaton, the former Chrysler chairman and CEO who helped orchestrate one of the largest industrial mergers ever with Daimler-Benz AG, will retire from the company March 31.

Plans to end production of the Jeep Cherokee have been put on hold because of continuing strong demand for the vehicle, DaimlerChrysler AG said Wednesday. The Cherokee had been scheduled to be retired in March 2001, when a new version was to have been introduced.

Amyas Ames, twice governor of the New York Stock Exchange, has died at age 93.

Amazon.com has a new corporate logo, disposing of the swooshed underline of its name and replacing it with a smile.

The Energy Department will delay deliveries to its emergency oil reserve in hopes of easing the recent surge in fuel prices and will closely monitor heating oil markets, Secretary Bill Richardson said Wednesday.
