River Park Evacuated Briefly For Burst Pipe
Downtown shoppers had to evacuate River Park Square for a brief period Saturday afternoon after a sprinkler head burst, triggering the mall’s fire alarm.
Approximately 1,000 gallons of water were sprayed onto the floor in the main lobby, said Spokane Fire Department Lt. Mike Rose.
Rose said a mall maintenance worker speculated that the pipe attached to the sprinkler head was frozen, causing it to burst.
“We repaired the head and reset the alarm all in a period of 10 minutes,” Rose said. “It was just more of an inconvenience than anything else.”
