Found In Stolen Vehicle, Pair Arrested
A Rockford couple were arrested after deputies found the pair in a stolen vehicle in the Spokane Valley on Tuesday afternoon. Wendell A. Walls, 34, and Virginia C. Morley, 36, were each booked on a charge of second-degree possession of stolen property, according to Spokane Sheriff’s spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan.
A citizen called the sheriff’s office after seeing a person lying on the ground beside a Toyota Corolla at the Centennial Trail’s Barker Road trailhead. A second person could be seen slumped over in the back seat.
Dispatchers notified paramedics, who arrived on scene first. They found Walls in the car, apparently intoxicated, and attempted to assist him, but he began to resist them, according to Reagan.
Morley, also apparently intoxicated, got in the car and attempted to drive away, according to Reagan. Paramedics stopped her from driving and grabbed the keys.
A second man at the scene jumped into the Spokane River and fled when he heard paramedics calling for police. He was never located.
Deputies checked the Toyota’s registration and learned it had been stolen from an apartment complex in the Spokane Valley on Friday. The car was still operable and released to the owner from the scene. Deputies were still investigating the identity of the third man.
