Company Bets Its Chips Will Be Winners
Mainstream music lovers — even those without PCs — may soon be able to convert CDs into digital music files.
A California company says it has developed a chip to accomplish the task. PortaPlayer Inc. of Santa Clara says its chip and software will allow next-generation boom boxes and home stereos to translate analog music into digital as the music plays and pull content off the Internet using a phone line.
