Dead Prez Newest Strong, Balanced

Nathaniel Eng Lewis

The content of the new album “Let’s Get Free” is very political.

Unlike most rappers, the Dead Prez aren’t rapping about girls, money or style. They rap about their position in life.

Their first single, “Hip Hop,” appears on the first half of the album and as a remixed track on the second half. It is wellrounded, with heavy bass and vocals. The song also appears on the Loud Records compilation, “Louder Than This.”

The other tracks on the album flow well together. They are linked by several quotes from speeches that reflect the group’s thoughts and feelings about the oppression of African Americans.

The songs are delivered with a euphonious tone, and overall, the album is strong and balanced.
