Blue Devils Romp On Hare’S No-Hitter
Steve Hare threw a six-inning no-hitter for the Spokane Blue Devils in an 8-0 American Legion Fourth of July Tournament win over the Idaho Falls Reds on Monday at Al K. Jackson Field.
Hare struck out six in the win and also helped his cause with two hits, including a double. George Bell went 3 for 3 with two doubles.
Earlier at Al K. Jackson, Idaho Falls scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Black Hills Bandits in extra innings.
At Gonzaga, the Spokane Bandits got off to a fast start, winning the first two games of the day.
The Bandits used a four-run sixth inning to beat Rogers Beavers of Sumner in the first game. Nick Barnes pitched a complete game for the Bandits, allowing just three hits and striking out eight.
In the second game, the Bandits scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 4-3 over the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen.
Later at Gonzaga, the Lumbermen dropped another close game, a 6-4 loss to the Spokane Valley Cannons. Chad Mathison pitched seven strong innings for the Cannons, striking out nine and allowing five hits.
At Avista Stadium, the Spokane Northstars got solid pitching from Dan Thigpen to beat the El Segundo Blue 4-1. Thigpen struck out eight in seven innings and walked one.
