Fake $20 Bills Reported In Valley

From Staff

Phony $20 bills are being passed around the Valley, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

A man told Deputy Craig Hamilton early Tuesday that a woman offered him $5 to drive her to a restaurant at Sprague and Pines. When they arrived, the woman handed him a $20 bill and said, “Merry Christmas.”

The man told the deputy the bill “felt funny,” so he suspected it was fake.

The woman is described as Native American, 5 feet 5, and heavyset.

Around 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, an employee at the North Pines Jack in the Box called the Sheriff’s Office to report a fake $20 bill. The manager told deputies she found the $20 in her cash bag and that it appeared to be photocopied.

Anyone who receives suspected counterfeit currency should handle it as little as possible so it can be processed for fingerprints. Get a description of the suspect and the suspect’s license plate if possible before calling Crime Check at 456-2233.
