Prison Escapee Remains At Large
A man who scaled a chain-link fence to escape the minimum-security section of the Airway Heights Corrections Center remained at large Wednesday.
Prison spokesman Cly Evans said a friend of escapee Michael H. Peters told officials that Peters cut his hand and hurt his ankle when he toppled over the fence early Tuesday. Peters called his friend in Tacoma to ask for help. Evans said it appears Peters acted alone during the escape.
Peters is 33, 5 feet 8, and 150 pounds. He has shoulder-length brown hair and hazel eyes. He has tattoos on his legs, stomach, back and arms.
Evans said the prison is reviewing the steps that led to Peters’ minimum-security assignment. He was serving time for a parole violation connected to a 1989 conviction for first-degree robbery, armed with a box cutter.
Peters spent one day in minimum security before he escaped. He could have been released as early as Aug. 9.
