University Road Section To Close Until Fall

Another Valley road will close to traffic starting Monday.

University Road will be closed until fall while construction crews complete a roadwidening-and-sewer project between Main and Mission avenues. Detours are expected to be in place until September or October.

Traffic will likely be detoured down Argonne or Bowdish, according to the Spokane County engineer’s office.

The $1.5 million project will include sewer installation, along with construction of a center turn lane, sidewalks and bike lanes.

Since spring Modern Electric has been removing trees along University and has relocated 62 electric poles. Power was switched to the new set of poles last week.

Other construction projects around the Valley will continue this next week.

Interstate 90 will be down to one lane westbound near the Argonne interchange. The state Department of Transportation is grading and paving the outer travel lane. The DOT expects work to be completed by July 16.

Vehicles with loads over 11 feet wide must exit at the Argonne westbound off-ramp, then re-enter via the Argonne on-ramp.

All on- and off-ramps will remain open during the project.

On Thursday, Peninsula Road on the west side of Newman Lake will be chip sealed. Motorists should expect slower speeds that day.

Valley Couplet construction will reduce a small stretch of Park Road to one lane between Sprague Avenue and Fourth Avenue during daylight hours.

Sullivan Road from 16th Avenue to Saltese Road will be down to one lane during daylight hours for construction.

Sullivan is under construction between 16th and 32nd. Traffic is also still being detoured around the intersection of 24th and Sullivan Road.

Evergreen Road between Sprague and Mission Avenue and Mission between Woodruff and Pines roads will remain closed for sewering and widening work this week.

Highway 27 repaving will continue between 32nd Avenue and Freeman. Motorists should expect some delays and rough road.
