Cyber Snoops May Be Watching You

Compiled By Bill Sallquist

For less than $50, it’s now possible for cybersleuths to spy on computer users, and the snooping is largely undetectable.

Two programs that are readily available - one costing just $49.95 - can capture your every keystroke, every message, every word, as well as every Web site you visit.

The programs were developed for parents who wanted to keep track of their kids’ online activities, and for employers to keep tabs on workers. Lately, however, they’re being pitched as a way for suspicious spouses to determine whether their suspicions are warranted.

* Scanner mania: While digital cameras hog the limelight, flatbed scanners have quietly become essential elements of all but the least sophisticated computer systems.

A sharp drop in price has put the devices within reach of most home computer owners. Decent scanners are now available for under $100, and excellent ones sell for $200 to $300.

And they’re one of the most versatile add-ons for computer systems.
