Adams County Lind
Wylie & the Wild West will be performing at the Lions Club Rodeo Arena at 8 p.m. Friday. Band leader Wylie Gustafson has developed a loyal following because of his back-to-the-basics style. The band plays traditional country music. Tickets are $10 at the gate and concessions are available.
Ferry County Republic
Ferry County residents desiring to become public servants need to declare their intentions by July 27. The filing period for county elective positions runs from July 24 to 27. Traditionally the closing date is a Friday, but because the courthouse is closed on Fridays due to lack of funding, the deadline has become 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The filing fee for county positions is 1 percent of the present salary amount. Filing for precinct officer is $1.
Grant County Grand Coulee
Police records show a rash of car prowls and thefts in Electric City. Big Bend Golf and Country Club was broken into and 16 bottles of liquor were taken from the bar. Just down Banks Lake, a boat was hijacked from Sun Banks Resort.
Lincoln County Creston
One local family is doing something about global warming. Karen Jones and her brother Terry Houger have joined the Carbon Offset Program. The program planted 45,600 pine trees on 205 acres north of town. This is only the first planting; another 450 acres will be planted in the spring.
Pend Oreille County Newport
The Family Crisis Network’s transition house is open. The network had been working on the $180,000 home for three years. Most of the money came from grants and low-interest loans. The duplex will accommodate two homeless families. The organization also operates a 24-hour crisis hotline.
Spokane County Cheney
Seahawks fans will be able to see the football team for free Sunday when Eastern Washington University hosts the EWU/Seahawks Extravaganza and Scrimmage. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the university will present a slew of Seahawks activities in the central mall, including a talk by Coach Mike Holmgren and a chance to meet the Seagals cheerleaders. Stevens County Colville
Officers Dale Wells and Daniel Spring were recently sworn in to protect and serve the residents here. Wells, 23, is a theology major who graduated from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Reserve Officer Academy. He is currently in the field training officer program. Daniels is a Kettle Falls native with a Marine background. He’s finished the academy work.
Whitman County Pullman
Four officers from the Pullman Police Department captured top team honors Saturday in the annual regional law enforcement shooting competition in Lewiston - called the Great Palouse Shootout. Sgt. Sam Sorem had the best overall score for the combat pistol course and was named “Top Gun” for the region. Sorem, along with Jake Opgenorth, Mike Crow and Ruben Harris, made up the winning team. A trophy and plaque will be displayed at police headquarters for one year for the honor.

Benewah County St. Maries

Bonner County Priest River
The West Bonner County School District 83 Central Office is now located in the Beardmore Building at Main and High Streets. The central office will temporarily include offices for the Food Service, Transportation and Special Services. The phone number, (208) 448-4439, will remain the same. The board of directors will continue to have most meetings at the Priest River Lamanna High School Library.
Boundary County Bonners Ferry
The Boundary County Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. July 20 at the Bonners Ferry Fire Hall to discuss rezoning approximately 180 acres south of the airport from ag/forestry to ag/suburban. Children’s Village will benefit from the recycling of outdated GTE phone books. The village will receive $250 per ton of recycled Kootenai County phone books. Old phone books may be left in containers at the village, 1350 W. Hanley, any Super-1 Food grocery store or at Tidyman’s, 410 Neider, Coeur d’Alene.
Latah County Moscow
Gritman Medical Center is in need of volunteers to support families with newborns. Volunteers spend four to 10 hours during the first month visiting in the hospital, sharing information, making referrals and making checkup calls. For details, call Marci Shreiber at (208) 883-6454.
