Street Blocked After Object Tossed From Car

From Staff

Explosives experts blocked off part of a north Spokane street Thursday after someone threw a smoking object out of a passing car, police said.

The incident occurred about 8 a.m. in the 2100 block of East Joseph.

A woman waiting for a bus told police she saw the passenger in a “beat-up white two-door” hurl something out of the passenger-side window.

The object, trailing smoke, landed in the street but did not explode, police said.

The car was being driven by a white woman, the witness said. No details on the passenger’s identity were released.

Members of the Police Department’s explosives disposal unit closed off a block-long stretch of Joseph while they collected the device and looked for clues. The street was re-opened about 9:30 a.m.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
