Othello
Residents are eager for news about the Nestle Co.’s plans for area potato processing plants. Rumors have been flying that Nestle plans to sell its Othello, Moses Lake and Nampa, Idaho, holdings. The Potato Growers of Washington says numerous companies have been checking the plants out. Nestle is one of the largest employers in the basin.

George
The George Scales Store was not robbed last Saturday night. Instead, clerk Amy S. Kissler, 21, was taken into custody for making false statements to police officers.
Kissler told deputies she was robbed at gunpoint by a masked man who took $200 and fled in a black and white car. Her father, the storeowner, told deputies he didn’t believe the story. His daughter admitted to taking the money. Kissler’s father is not pursuing theft charges.

Local residents will rest a little easier knowing a 13-year-old’s pipe bomb has been defused and he is in custody. The bomb was discovered by a juvenile probation officer performing a spot check of his home last Friday evening. The Spokane Bomb Squad was brought in to defuse the bomb. There is no word on charges against the youth, already on probation.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife alerts all anglers that trout fishing in the county is excellent. Marshall Lake is producing up to 9-inch rainbow, with North Skookum Lake offering rainbow up to 14 inches. The brook trout are measuring between 8 and 9 inches. No Name, Yocum and Half Moon lakes are known for their cutthroat trout, while Ledbetter Lake is getting a name for 3-pound brook trout. Olive and brown-colored flies seem to be the fish favorite.

The city parks department and Spokane Rose Society will hold its annual Rose Hill Day at Manito Park from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Rosarians will be on hand to talk about roses and answer questions.
Stevens County
Colville
A routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a Spokane man driving a rolling meth lab, according to police. Reserve Officer Mike Swim pulled over a blue Datsun pickup for a missing headlight and tail light. The suspect, Gerald L. Ward, had a suspended license. Officers said they found methamphetamine and all the equipment to produce more in the truck. A rifle also was found between the driver and passenger seat as was a price list for meth components from a supplier in Colorado.

St. Maries
Twenty-five percent of the students who participate in extracurricular activities in the St. Maries School District will be subjected to random drug testing and may be tested more than once. The school board passed the proposal 4-1 at a recent meeting. Jeff Wolter, a new board member, voted against the policy citing student privacy and constitutional rights.

A wooden boat show on Lake Pend Oreille will include everything from canoes to cabin cruisers, in all stages of restoration. Nearby Ellisport Bay will host a parade of boats. The free event is the first of its kind on the lake and will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 22. The parade will start at 3 p.m. Organizers said they hope to make this an annual event. Rathdrum
Turning lanes will be added at the Twin Lakes and Par 3 roads north of Rathdrum by the Idaho Transportation Department. Street lighting will be added to Par 3 Road. Flaggers will guide motorists through a one-way, one-lane area. The $360,000 project is expected to be done by mid-August.

Southwest Moscow will get a new park - someday. The city agreed to purchase 44 acres south of Palouse River Drive for $152,300 from Sherman and Janice Clyde. The land includes 2,000 feet of the Palouse River and will be paid for in three years but won’t be developed anytime soon.
Shoshone County

Water service will be interrupted from 8 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Monday for homes and businesses, with odd-numbered addresses, on the east side of Division between Portland and Mill avenues and on Main Street south of Market Avenue, according to a report from the Idaho Bureau of Disaster Services. The disruption will be caused by connections being made to the main water line as part of the Milo Creek project. All vehicle and pedestrian traffic is prohibited on Division between Railroad and McKinley avenues as well as on Station Avenue.

The 14- and 15-year-old Babe Ruth Baseball All-Star team took third place at the Firecracker Invitational Tournament June 30 through July 3 in Sandpoint. Teams from Richland, Sandpoint, Lewiston, and Kalispell participated.
