Approaching Dawn

Story

I t’s about 4 a.m. when the skyline of Spokane’s downtown buildings make their geometric pattern against the pre-dawn sky.

The deep blue light descends from the atmosphere, mixing with the electric world, creating a surreal place of quiet pastels and mysterious shapes.

If only for a short time, downtown is a peaceful, serene place where human presence is scarce.

By the time the first rays of sunlight scale the line of mountains to the east and penetrate the darkness, the city begins to awaken. Concrete and steel are bathed in the sun’s warm light and the familiar habitat of daytime awakens.
