Man Convicted Of Rape Charge

Frank Reed Nordlund, accused of being the “Parkland Rapist,” has been convicted of attempted rape in Pierce County. A Superior Court jury took just over two hours Thursday to reach the verdict. Nordlund will be sentenced Sept. 29.

The Parkland Rapist was blamed for attacking women in Pierce and King counties at least 20 times in 1998 and 1999.

Nordlund, 36, of Spanaway, Wash., also was convicted in a separate Pierce County case in March of attempted rape, indecent liberties and two counts of unlawful imprisonment.

He was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole because of a previous sex offense on his record in the mid-1980s.

Nordlund is scheduled for trial Sept. 14 in King County for two counts of first-degree rape in assaults on women and girls in Kent, Wash,.

On Oct. 30, he will return to Pierce County for trial on first-degree kidnapping and first-degree rape charges stemming from an attack on a 16-year-old girl.

Nordlund is also to stand trial on charges of four additional attacks in Pierce County.
