Adams County Othello

DARE officers recently met with a large group of kids and parents at Othello Manor. Sheriff’s Deputy Dale Wagner left the kids with some important anti-drug messages, as he tries to do regularly during the school year.

Ferry County Republic

A local family placed a notice in the Republic News-Miner that a set of keys had been found in their bird feeder. Anyone whose keys have flown the coop is asked to call (509) 775-2723 to possibly get them back.

Grant County Moses Lake

The Colville Confederated Tribes has announced it will hold its fall powwow at the Grant County Fairgrounds the first weekend in October.

Lincoln County Creston

A community meeting will be held Thursday at the Community Hall to discuss implementation of a community action plan. For more information, call (509) 636-3145.

Pend Oreille County Tiger

The historic Tiger Store has been restored. It includes a frontier museum, as well as the old post office. A dedication ceremony will be held July 29 at 9:15 a.m.

Spokane County Cheney

Four students from the Cheney area have been awarded scholarships for the 2000-2001 school year at Eastern Washington University. They include Kathrin Anderson, Cheney, $400 Allan Ogdon Memorial Scholarship; Cassandra Caterson, Cheney, $250 George and Julia Robertson Scholarship; Matthew Newberg, Cheney, $1,000 Cheney Realty Scholarship; Audrey Mauro, Medical Lake, $1,500 Dean’s Scholarship.

Stevens County Colville

The second Habitat for Humanity home in Colville is nearly finished. Just as one home is being finished, the The Colville Valley Partners organization puts another on the drawing board. A home in Kettle Falls is in the works for fall.

Whitman County Colfax

The candidate filing period for the Sept. 19 primary election and Nov. 7 general election begins Monday and ends Friday. Positions open in Whitman County include county commissioner districts 1 and 2 and county treasurer, a two-year unexpired term. The Whitman County Superior Court judge position is also open, with Judge Wallis Friel retiring this year. District Court Judge David Frazier has already announced he will seek that position, after serving for 18 years as Whitman County District Court judge. The last day for candidates to withdraw their candidacy will be Thursday, Aug. 2. Any inquiries regarding candidate filing or fees should be directed to the Whitman County Auditor’s Office, Election Department, (509) 397-6270.

IDAHO

Benewah County St. Maries

The Junior and Senior Little League State Championships will continue today in St. Maries. The District One champions will play the District Two champions in a best-of-three series. St. Maries teams are not competing. Games will begin at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Bonner County Clark Fork

Weight restrictions are in place on the Clark Fork Bridge while some of the wooden planking is being replaced with metal sheeting. The restrictions will remain until repairs are completed or until the new bridge is built, according to the Bonner County Road Department.

Boundary County Bonners Ferry

The Track 2000 team is raising funds for a new track field for the Bonners Ferry High School. First Security Bank donated $2,500 raised from the June 23 golf tournament. Principal Terry Sherven said approximately $25,000 from concession sales, Pepsi Corp. and other sources has been set aside for the track. To make a donation, call Ron Davis at (208) 267-3817.

Kootenai County Coeur d’Alene

Forty sets of spring/summer decorative banners will placed on Sherman Avenue between Northwest Boulevard and Eighth Street, on Lakeside between First and Eighth streets and on Third and Fourth streets. The banners are part of the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association’s downtown beautification project. Funding was provided by the Urban Renewal Agency and the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association.

Latah County Kendrick

Seven senior citizens took a one-day clay class and made a series of tiles that will be grouted into a concrete bench and placed next to a bathroom at the city park. Kari Galloway, the teacher, said the class was open to everyone but only seniors showed up. The seniors, Shirlee Richey, Kathlyn Morley and Juanita Craig all of Kendrick; Harold Larson and Louis Pea, of Juliaetta; and Bob and Barbara Miller of Deary made Galloway an honorary senior citizen.

Shoshone County Mullan

The Mullan All-Class Reunion will be held this weekend throughout Mullan. Events include a street dance, breakfast, a picnic, a buffet dinner and church services.

MONTANA

Lincoln County Libby

Professional soccer players from England will be coaching the Lincoln County Youth Soccer Association’s day and team camps July 21-Aug. 4 at the Libby Middle School. The professionals are trained to work with youths of all skill levels, ages 5-18. Team camp focuses on advanced ball-handling skills and team work.
