Valley Nazarene Holds Groundbreaking

Members of the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene will break ground on their new church on Sunday. A short worship service and groundbreaking ceremony is planned for 6 p.m. at the site, located at 20th and Sullivan.

Construction on the $4 million building is expected to start in mid-August with completion set for fall 2001, says church administrator Steve Wilson.

The Valley Center has purchased the church’s current building, located at 10814 E. Broadway, and the church is leasing it back until the new building is complete. They must vacate the building on Broadway by Sept. 30, 2001. “That’s when we turn into a pumpkin,” says Wilson.

The new church will feature a sanctuary that seats about 1,000, a full-size gym, a youth center and an outdoor amphitheater. The church is already making plans to expand existing programs and start new ones. “We’d like it to be a community center, something happening seven days a week,” says Wilson.

The public is welcome to attend Sunday’s groundbreaking ceremony.
