Ritzville
The public is invited to put in its two cents’ worth on the subject of cell towers. The Adams County Commissioners are holding a public hearing today to discuss the future of cell towers here. Currently, there is a moratorium on construction of these towers, which seem to be popping up all over the wide-open landscape. The hearing begins at 2:30 p.m. in the commissioners’ quarters.
Ferry County
Republic
All kids wishing to play soccer this season are asked to sign up as soon as possible. The season begins August 8 and runs through September 21. This is the second year for the program, aimed at kids aged five through 12. The soccer association reports it has enough coaches, but could use assistants and other support staff to help things run smoothly. To volunteer, call (509)775-8913. The Republic Drug Store and Curlew store have player registration forms.
Lincoln County
Davenport
Seniors in the county are pleased to have an advocate in Russ Goodman. Goodman is the county’s first volunteer ombudsman for residents of Lincoln Nursing Home and Vista Manor, both public facilities, and the private home, Serene Meadows. A retired police officer, Goodman has been trained in elderly rights by the Aging and Adult Care of Central Washington agency. His task is to make sure any issues of neglect or patient rights are addressed.

There’s been an important retirement in the county. The old U.S. flag that flew over Centennial Plaza has been taken down. Tattered and worn, Old Glory served the area well. The local VFW has purchased a large new flag at a cost of $400. Local resident Terri Ann Lyons-Hedtke kept the old flag flying with her numerous rip repairs over the past two years. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife public boat launch at Pend Oreille County’s Davis Lake will be closed on Monday, July 31 for repairs. Fish and Wildlife officials estimate the launch will be open for use within a few days of the repairs.

Liberty
The Liberty School District’s board of directors will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Liberty High School library to adopt the district’s 2000-2001 fiscal budget. For questions or copies of the proposed budget, call the district superintendent’s office at (509) 245-3223.
Spangle
Members of the Spangle Service Club have issued a special thank you to the friends and neighbors who participated in the club’s community auction in May. Proceeds will go to remodeling the Service Club Building on Main Street.

The Coalition of Responsible Disabled is hosting a celebration marking the 10th anniversary of the American Disabilities Act. The event happens Wednesday at Riverfront Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be music and refreshments. Colville
The town of Colville recently honored one of its most notable citizens. “Helen White Appreciation Day” was held July 21 in downtown Colville. Locals were treated to a special ceremony and luncheon in her honor. White joined the city council in 1976 during a period of growth and change. She became mayor in 1983. White recalls here city involvement as “never dull.”
Colville
Residents of Swede-Anderson Road have just over one month to decide where to get their drinking water. The City of Colville has given them an ultimatum - be annexed or become a non-profit corporation. The homes along this road are in the county, but use city water from a line the residents replaced with their own funds. The city maintains an agreement needs to be struck by Sept. 1 or the city will shut off flow to this area.
Whitman County
Pullman
The Pullman City Council will consider 10 resolutions at its July 25 meeting at 7:30 p.m. The resolutions include several bids for construction projects, approval of the Canyon View Estates subdivision plat, approval of phase II of the Emerald Pointe Estates and a preliminary plat for a third Emerald Pointe Addition. Also, the council will discuss developing a comprehensive storm water management plan, the government access channel, night closure of the Spring Street Park restroom and the sewer agreement with Washington State University.
