Man Charged In Fatal Shooting
A Spokane man has been charged with second-degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a woman Monday morning, police said. Steven N. Hansen, 23, was already being held in jail on a charge of unlawfully possessing a firearm. In addition to the manslaughter charge, Hansen is being charged with first-degree burglary for allegedly threatening his former girlfriend, Tyjana Marie Campbell, and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon.
Spokane police were called to a home at 2404 W. Francis about 1 a.m. Monday. Carisa D. Chapman, 22, was found dead inside. The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, police said. A handgun was also found inside the house. Hansen and Chapman lived at the home with three small children. The children were turned over to Chapman’s parents.
Detective George Benavidez said several witnesses told police they heard what sounded like more than one gunshot about the time Chapman was killed.
Police said they have responded to past domestic violence incidents involving Chapman and Hansen.
