Quarterly Earnings Reports
Starbucks Corp. had a 31 percent gain in sales and a 42 percent increase in profits. Net revenues jumped to $556 million, up from $424 million in the same period a year ago. Net profits increased to $34.9 million, compared to $24.6 million in 1999.
Nokia Corp.’s net profit to 951 million euros ($900.6 million based on June 30 currency rate), or .20 euros (19 cents) per share, up from 581 million euros, or .13 euros per share, in the same period last year.
Dow Chemical Co.’s earnings rose 29 percent from a year ago. The company said it earned $527 million, or 77 cents a share, in the quarter ending June 30. The firm earned $410 million, or 61 cents a share, in the same period of 1999.
Strong U.S. cereal sales helped Kellogg Co. second-quarter profits meet Wall Street expectations. The company earned $165.6 million, or 41 cents per share. Analysts had predicted earnings of 41 cents per share for the quarter.
