Tree-Planting Project Needs Volunteers In/Around: Logan Area

The Logan Neighborhood Council is encouraging homeowners to get involved with a tree planting project this fall near Hamilton Street.

Anyone interested in participating can register by calling the Logan COPS substation at 625-3333 by 6 p.m. Sunday, leaving name, phone number and address.

The target area for the planting project is the west side of Hamilton from Sinto to Euclid.

Jim Flott, the city’s horticulture specialist, will oversee the planting.

The Logan Neighborhood Council has set aside $63,000 in community development funds since planting 83 trees in the neighborhood in 1996. The group planted 41 trees in 1991.

“In older neighborhoods trees are an important part of the character of the neighborhood,” said council chairwoman Jeanette Harris. “We have a lot of drive-through traffic, and the trees will help absorb some of the carbon monoxide, plus they provide shade.”
