Paradox
The band Paradox took several forms before assuming its current one.
Members cycled through several names — Realistic, Dairy Queen Empire and Parasite - before scouring a dictionary and choosing “paradox.”
“We looked through a bunch of different cool words, then we looked at the definitions,” drummer Micah Wilson said. “And now we’re Paradox, because it’s cool.”
The band’s four members attend Mead High School and include Josh Albright on rhythm guitar and vocals, Peter Spier on lead guitar, Wilson on drums, and the newest member, Mark Zilar, on bass guitar.
The group plays a mix of cover and original songs, with Albright the most frequent songwriter.
“A song usually starts out with one person, then everyone contributes to it,” Albright said.
Like choosing the name, the band took a few detours before becoming a group.
Wilson and Spier first played together in grade school, then reunited in eighth grade, adding a bass player. Wilson said that group fizzled due to personality conflicts, which led them to recruit Albright and later Zilar.
Paradox members said the toughest part of playing in a band is keeping the group together.
“Always try to look for the better day,” Wilson said. “That’s what kept us together. We’ve had some really hard times, but it all worked out.”
