Flag Day In Fairfield
Fairfield calls itself the town that celebrates Flag Day.
Or, more accurately, the town that celebrates Flag Day before anyone else.
Flag Day isn’t until June 14, but the small south Spokane County town will get a jump on the festivities this weekend with its 91st annual Flag Day celebration. More than a dozen events are scheduled throughout the weekend.
The weekend’s main draw is the grand parade which starts on Main Street at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Three floats, a bevy of antique cars and the Liberty High School marching band will be among the 61 entries.
Fairfield SCOPE president Ray Westlake will be the grand marshal.
The two-day celebration will start Friday with a quilt show from noon to 9 p.m. at the Presbyterian church. The quilt show will also be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday’s events start with a hearty breakfast at the Grange Hall from 7 to 9:30 a.m. The Flag Flying Fun Run follows at 8 a.m.
The flag will be raised in front of the Fairfield Post Office at 10:30 a.m.
Throughout the afternoon on Saturday there will be Civil War re-enactments and a chance to dunk cheerleaders from Liberty High School at the Fairfield service club dunk tank. Both will take place in the lower city park area.
The Wenatchee Youth Circus will also be putting on two shows in the upper park at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The Saturday events will end with an adult dance from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the city fire station.
