Operator Sue Bailey Honored For Longevity

Crime Check and 911 operator Sue Bailey was honored with a surprise barbecue and award ceremony last week at Fire District 9’s Station 92 for her 20 years of service to Spokane County.

“It is incredibly rare for somebody in Crime Check to stay that long,” said Sgt. Laurie Johnson, 911 coordinator and Bailey’s supervisor for the past eight months. “It’s extremely stressful, and there are few rewards.”

Bailey, a North Side resident, started as a Crime Check operator when it was run by the city. Since then, it has merged with 911 and is operated by the sheriff’s office.

As supervisor of the swing shift, Bailey works five days a week from 3-11 p.m.. She is also an expert on the phone device for the hearing impaired.

“She really cares about people - the operators she works with,” Johnson said. “She cares about the issues they care about.”
