Obituaries

Richard Blaisdell Spokane

Service for Richard B. Blaisdell, 81, will be at 10 a.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Creston (Wash.) Cemetery.

Mr. Blaisdell, who was born in Creston, died Wednesday.

He worked for Kaiser Aluminum at the Trentwood Plant for 30 years, retiring in 1981.

Mr. Blaisdell was a member of Concordia Masonic Lodge No. 249, El Katif Shrine, Moon Shriners, Trinity Amaranth, Magnolia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge and Creston Christian Church. He was named 4-H leader of the year at the Rathdrum (Idaho) Grange.

His wife, Gail, died in 1993.

Survivors include a son, Bert Blaisdell of Otis Orchards; three daughters, Elaine Bacon of Coeur d’Alene, Jan Bacon of Twin Lakes, Idaho, and Dianne Blaisdell-Holmes of Atlanta; a sister, Bonnie Knoll of Otis Orchards; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Creston Christian Church.

James Seipp Spokane

Memorial service for James Vincent Seipp, 49, was Sunday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Seipp, who was born in Bozeman, Mont., died Thursday. He was a 42-year Spokane resident.

He graduated in 1969 from Shadle Park High School. He then served in the Army and was stationed in Germany.

Mr. Seipp married Rosemary Jones in 1976.

He sold residential real estate, was a home builder, and, since 1991 worked as a broker for Alvin J. Wolff Inc. selling commercial real estate.

Mr. Seipp was a charter member of the Lions Club, a designated CCIM and was a 25-year member of the Spokane Association of Realtors.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jeremy Jones and Jeffrey Seipp, both of Spokane; two daughters, Jennifer Stoudt of Spokane and Allissa Sells of Everett; his mother, Sylvia Seipp of Veradale; three sisters, Debbie Carney of Spokane, Jacque Young of Veradale and Vicki Carney of Shoreline, Wash.; a brother, Gerald Seipp of Bellevue; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery or Anna Ogden Hall for Women and Children.

Martha Klingberg Post Falls

Graveside service for Martha M. Klingberg, 87, was Friday at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.

Born in Kennewick, Mrs. Klingberg died Wednesday.

She moved to Sandpoint in 1956, and to Spokane in 1960. She settled in Post Falls in 1962.

Mrs. Klingberg was a homemaker and a member of the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Rathdrum, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth.

Survivors include a son, Robert Klingberg, and a daughter, Laquinta Alldredge, both of Pocatello, Idaho; a sister, Harriet Rookey of Spokane; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Howard Gorst Prosser, Wash.

Memorial service for Howard C. Gorst, 61, will be 11 a.m. June 24 at the Nazarene Church in Puyallup, Wash. Columbia Memorial Chapel in Pasco, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gorst, who was born in Bremerton, died May 26. He was a former 12-year Spokane resident.

He graduated from Ephrata High School in 1957.

Mr. Gorst worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in 1959 and joined the Army in 1968. He was a noncommissioned officer while stationed in Thailand for Utilities District System.

After his discharge he attended the University of Alaska and studied accounting from 1963 to 1964.

He worked for the Seattle Housing Authority from 1970 to 1974. He later worked as a building inspector in the city of Kent, Wash., as a building official for Skagit County and as an assistant to building officials in Spokane County. Mr. Gorst spent eight years as project manager for the Spokane County Jail.

He moved to Spokane in the late 1970s.

He later worked as building official for the city of Lynnwood, Wash., after moving there in 1991. He retired from a state government job in 1995.

In 1996 he moved to Prosser.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, International Conference of Building Officials, Structural Engineers Association of Washington, a charter member of the International Fire Code and a national member of the Academy of Code Administrations.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; two sons, Reed Gorst of Lynnwood and Ryan Gorst of Maryland; a daughter, Elizabeth Gallant of Woodbridge, Va.; thee stepsons, Lonne Bentley of Spokane, Lee Bentley of Spanaway, Wash., and Lennie Bentley of Shelton, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Christine Bentley of Portland; a brother, Clinton Gorst of Bellingham; and eight grandchildren.

Fred Clark Spokane

Service and burial for Fred L. Clark, 69, will be held at a later date in Marmarth, N.D. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Clark, who was born in Bismarck, N.D., died June 2. He was a 50-year Spokane resident.

He worked as a produce clerk for Safeway, and as a clerk for McKesson and Robbins. He later worked for City Hall in maintenance for 14 years. He retired in 1995.

Survivors include four sisters, Verna Magnuson and Rosalie Wolf, both of Stranton, N.D., Donna Arnell of Marmarth and Phylis Stegner of Rhame, N.D.; and two brothers, Russell Clark of Baker, Mont., and Clifford Clark of Richey, Mont.

Maude Chittick Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Maude Ellen Chittick, 89, will be held later. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Chittick, who died Wednesday, was born in Woodland, Idaho.

She graduated from high school in Clarkston, Wash., and from Washington State College.

Mrs. Chittick taught junior high in Oregon and Washington, before settling in Manchester, Wash., in 1951. She retired from the South Kitsap School District in Port Orchard, Wash., in 1975.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1997.

Her husband, Boone, died in 1970.

Survivors include two sons, Arden Chittick of Bear Lake, Pa., and Eldon Chittick of Coeur d’Alene; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to a cancer research organization.

The Rev. Francis McGuigan, S.J. Fairbanks, Alaska

Burial Mass for the Rev. Francis W. McGuigan, 80, was Thursday in Fairbanks. Burial was at Birch Hill Cemetery in Fairbanks.

Father McGuigan, who was born and raised in Spokane, died Saturday.

He graduated from Gonzaga Prep and in 1939, entered the Jesuit Novitiate in Sheridan, Ore.

He returned to Spokane and received a master’s degree in philosophy from Gonzaga University in 1946. Father McGuigan moved to Yakima that year, and taught school and coached at Marquette High School until 1949. In 1952 he returned to Spokane and was ordained.

He graduated from Santa Clara University School of Theology in 1953, and returned to Marquette High School, where he served as vice principal, teacher, athletic director, assistant coach and eventually principal from 1953 to 1959.

Father McGuigan returned to Spokane in 1959 where he was Father Minister at Mount St. Michael’s .

In 1962 he moved to Fairbanks, where he served as principal of Monroe Catholic High School until 1966, when he returned to Spokane and served as pastor at St. Aloysius Church until 1969. In 1969 he was appointed the first rector of the Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral parish in Fairbanks. He held that position for two years and began raising funds for the Catholic schools of Fairbanks. He held the first Happiness is Paying Our Way auction in 1970 and oversaw this annual auction until his death. In 1971 he became a counselor for the Fairbanks Public School System, where he served for 13 years.

Father McGuigan served as a coordinator for the visit of Pope John Paul II and President Ronald Reagan in 1984 in Fairbanks. That same year he began working full-time with the Monroe Foundation.

He was awarded the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner Citizen of the Year Award in 1999. He also was honored at the annual Distinguished Citizen Award Banquet by the Midnight Sun Council of the Boy Scouts of America in 1995.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Peter DeFeyter Spokane

Service for Peter J. DeFeyter, 17, was held Saturday at Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church. Private burial will be held. Mr. DeFeyter, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

He was a student at St. George’s School.

Survivors include his parents, David and Marsha DeFeyter of Spokane; a brother, Aaron DeFeyter of Spokane; his grandparents, Donald and Florence DeFeyter of Spokane, and Shuko Hara of Seattle; and his great-grandparents, Henry and Edith Smith of Kennewick. Memorial contributions may be made to St. George’s School, designated for Peter’s Garden.
