Sandpoint Deca Honored By Mda

Sandpoint High School DECA Chapter was ranked as one of the top 10 chapters nationwide in MDA support by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Because of its hard work and effort, MDA and Seven Up honored the top 10 DECA Chapters at a special private breakfast April 30 in Louisville, Ky.

The following Coeur d’Alene High School students qualified to attend and compete at the National DECA Conference in Louisville, Ky., April 28-May 3. Students competed at the DECA State Career Conference in Boise in March.

Jeremiah Foley, first place Entrepreneurship Participating Event; Justin Murphy, second place Food Marketing; Keith Fischer, second place, Full Service Restaurants; Brook Chariton and Kinsy Hood, second place Travel and Tourism; Katie Baum, fourth place Apparel and Accessories. Ben Christen, Jordan Englestad, Molleah Ohrt and Kathrynn Schaible, will attend Nationals in the Leadership Category.

Other students who received awards at the State Career Conference follow:

Full Service Restaurant Test: Caleb Goneau, Rachel Shaw and Barbara Davis.

Retail Merchandising Interview and Test: Robert Jamar.

Vehicles and Petroleum Test and Interview: Robert Findley, fourth place; Brady Balak, fifth place; and Drew Fitzgerald, sixth place.

Travel and Tourism: Candace Jacobs and Amy McLeod, fourth place.

Sports and Entertainment: Molleah Ohrt and Nicole Larkins, fifth place.

DECA Chapter Projects

Public Relations - Students participated in a one-year project to inform area residents and business people about CHS DECA. The students are Molleah Ohrt and Alex Fromdahl, third place.

Learn and Earn - DECA members sold cookies at Sears over the Christmas holidays. Through their efforts they raised the funds to pay for three one-year scholarships at North Idaho College. The students are Nicole Larkins, Barbara Davis and Brooke Chariton.

Civic Consciousness - Students managed a blood drive which broke the prior year’s record of 258 units and was valued by the blood bank as a contribution worth over $30,000. The students are Katie Baum, Trevor Snyder and Shane Lauri.

Three students received the Lincoln Middle School’s May Student of the Month honors sponsored by the Pullman Kiwanis Club.

Selected by students and teachers, the winners are Lindsay Quock, sixth grade, daughter of Raymond and Lina Quock; Emily McGregor, seventh grade, daughter of Alex and Linda McGregor; and Angela Muehling, eighth grade, daughter of Darrel and Barb Muehling.
