All-Star Soccer Game Set For Albi
The top boys soccer players from the Spokane area will take on the top players from North Idaho in the Inland Empire East vs. West All-Star Game at 4:45 p.m. Saturday at Albi Stadium.
All players are graduating seniors.
West players are Joey Fenske and David White, Ferris; Matt Johnson, Central Valley; David Ettinger, East Valley; Robert Rowland, Lewis and Clark; Chris Snyder and Bobby LaBelle, Mt. Spokane; Brad Cushman, Morgan Ball, Aaron Fielder and Dustin Allbery, North Central; Clint Roberts and Nick Ascolese, Gonzaga Prep; Josh Adams, Rogers; Kenny Towner, Shadle Park; Brian Velategui, University; and Wink Hodgson and B.J. Ostby, Riverside.
Confirmed East players are Jeff Waggoner, Ryan Crandall, Jared Richards, Kip Sharbono, Jon Baune and Barret Schwerin, Coeur d’Alene; Travis Anderson, Mark Landers, Tyler Chisholm and Kevin Quinn, Lake City; Jake Bachman, Brian Farber, Ryan Mahler and Jake Rosholt, Sandpoint; and Dusty Cash, Mike Beard, Jason Sweeney and Jesse Norton, Moscow.
Robin Crain of Greater Spokane League champion Ferris and Kevin Moon of Great Northern League champion Riverside will coach the Washington team. John Smith, Jeff Deming and Rob Schmidt of CdA will coach the Idaho team.
A girls all-star game has been rescheduled for July 8 at Albi.
Golf
Spokane’s Lani Elston finished in eighth place at the American Junior Golf Association’s Las Vegas Founders’ Legacy girls tournament at Henderson, Nev.
Elston, of Ferris High, shot a third-round score of 1-over-par 73 on the 5,714-yard layout at The Legacy Golf Club. Elston finished at 225, 18 strokes behind champion Ina Kim of Encino, Calif.
Baseball
Ferris High graduate Eric Sandberg was named to the Class A Midwest League all-star team. The 1998 graduate is hitting .279 for the Quad City (Iowa) River Bandits, with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs.
American Legion baseball
The Pullman Patriots opened their Senior league play by sweeping the Silver Lanes Bandits 8-2, 6-2 at Jackson Field. Trent Baysinger had three doubles on the day and pitched a complete game, striking out 10, in the second game. Dean Neppel pitched a complete game in the opener, and Nate Nolting went 3 for 3 with two runs batted in.
