Off-Duty Deputy Collars Suspect

An off-duty sheriff’s deputy chased down a 20-year-old man who allegedly assaulted and robbed a woman at a Spokane intersection Saturday morning.

Spokane police, who were called to the scene, arrested the suspect, Ronnie D. Lacy. A 16-year-old boy allegedly involved in the robbery was later arrested at his home.

The victim told police she and a female friend had gone to the Zip Trip convenience store at Third Avenue and Altamont at around 8:15 a.m. when they were approached by three men at Pacific and Altamont.

Witnesses told police Lacy and the 16-year-old, demanding money, began hitting the woman with a stick and their hands.

The three men ran as the deputy gave chase. The deputy caught Lacy and held him until police arrived. The 16-year-old was identified by police and picked up at his home.

Lacy was booked into jail on a first-degree robbery charge, and the 16-year-old was booked into juvenile detention on the same charge, a felony. Police were uncertain if the third male participated in the incident.

The victim did not require medical attention for her injuries.
