Witham Victorious At Stateline Speedway
Spokane’s Todd Witham survived an undisclosed mechanical problem that forced him to be towed to the pits during a heat race and returned to claim victory in the 50 lap Interstate Super Racing Series feature race Saturday night at Stateline Speedway.
Witham, who led from the ninth lap on, and earlier had set fast time and won the A-Trophy Dash, finished ahead of Brad Allard of Sandpoint and Kennewick’s Brad Rhoads, who placed third.
Leading the race’s final 27 laps, Brian Nevers won his third Street Stock main event of the season and second in his last three outings. Nevers was so dominant that he lapped all but three in the 17 car field.
In the visiting Northwest Super Fours, Kennewick’s Rick Thompson won his second race in as many Stateline outings. Spokane’s Andy Brown was third and Bret Santa Rosa 10th.
Boise’s John Dillon took over the lead on lap 41 and claimed a 2-second victory over Chris Hart for his first NASCAR Northwest Series victory of the season Saturday at Tri City Raceway. Spokane’s Matt Hall started 19th and finished 16th.
Spokane’s Rod Hoerner got out of shape at the 1,000 foot mark and had shutdown, thus losing in the semi-finals of the Federal Mogul All-Star Super Gas championships Saturday at Columbus, Ohio, to Jimmy Lewis. Hoerner defeated Todd Drummond in round one to advance to the semis.
