So, Junior Just Couldn’T Coexist?

Tom FitzGerald in the San Francisco Chronicle:

“Ken Griffey Jr.’s old digs in the Seattle suburb of Issaquah are on sale, listed at $2.3 million.

“The Seattle Post-Intelligencer got hold of a flyer sent to area real estate agents that reads:

“`This 4.6-acre estate provided sanctuary for Ken Griffey Jr. and his family during his acclaimed time with the Mariners.

“`The approximate 5,000-square-foot home is wrapped in its manicured setting where nature harmoniously coexists with the creature of its inhabitants.’

“Coexists with the what? A family pet? A ghost?

Mas futbol, por favor

For The International Football Channel there’s no such thing as too much soccer.

TIFC, the world’s only 24-hour soccer channel, has been sending its Spanish-language signal to the Latin American cable market via satellite since March.

But now South Florida fans can also get all soccer all the time.

Miami-based TIFC made its first foray into the U.S. market March 24 when it launched a signal on a broadcast channel that reaches more than one million South Florida homes.

Viewers can be picky

Ron Rapoport, writing in the Chicago Sun-Times:

“Tennis fans know what they like, and it isn’t Mary Pierce beating Conchita Martinez and Gustavo Kuerten whipping Magnus Norman.

“TV ratings for the finals of the French Open were down nearly 40 percent from the 1999 matchups of Steffi Graf-Martina Hingis and Andrei Agassi-Andei Medvedev.”

Obsessed with failure

Houston Astros first baseman Jeff Bagwell admittedly had trouble enjoying his 1,000th career run batted in when he reached that milestone.

“I’m one of those `The cup is half-empty’ kind of guys,” Bagwell said. “I’m so messed up. If I got 3,000 hits, I’d probably be thinking more about the 7,000 outs I’ve made.”

The last word …

“Hey, the Bengals have been making their fans gag for nearly a decade.”

- Mike Ashley in Sportsnote.com upon learning the Cincinnati Bengals are putting gag order clauses in their player contracts.
