Tracking Bracelet Program In Works
The Spokane Police Chaplaincy announced Monday it wants to make radio-tracking bracelets avail- able to the public at little or no cost. The Chaplaincy is trying to raise donations for the bracelets, which are intended to be worn on the wrists of Alzheimer’s disease patients or others with conditions that cause them to wander.
The bracelets normally cost about $300 each. How much they would cost under the Chaplaincy’s plan depends on how many donations are received.
The bracelets transmit a radio signal that’s picked up by a receiver mounted on a car or helicopter. The program is intended to reduce search costs and produce quicker results when someone is missing.
Five electronic bracelets are being used through a program recently started by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
People can register for a bracelet at a Spokane COPS station, Sheriff’s SCOPE office or the Alzheimer’s Association at 720 W. Boone.
Bracelet donations can be made to the Spokane Chaplain’s Board, 1100 W. Mallon, Spokane WA 99260.
