Applications Sought For Library Board

Trustees for the County Library District are looking for another member after the recent resignation of their chairman.

Scott Phipps, head of the library district’s board of trustees for six months, quit for personal reasons in May, officials said. His responsibilities have been reassigned, and now the five-person board needs to fill the open seat.

Applications for the volunteer position are available from the Spokane County commissioners’ office in the Courthouse. The deadline is July 14.

To be eligible, candidates must live in the district’s service area - all of Spokane County outside the city limits.

A background in business is helpful, along with experience on a board and interest in public libraries, officials said.

Board members set policy and manage the budget for the county Library District. Responsibilities include attending monthly meetings, special meetings as scheduled, and annual one-day retreats.

The Library District includes 10 branches throughout Spokane County that serve about 225,000 county residents.

For more information about the position, call the district at 924-4122.
