Paving Projects Get Go-Ahead
County Commissioners on Tuesday approved two new paving projects in the West Valley area.
Road improvement districts will be formed to pave a commercial area southeast of Felts Field. The area includes a block of Knox Avenue off Fancher Road, a short spur of Dollar Road south of Trent Avenue, and Mansfield Avenue between Dollar and Eastern roads.
Another project would pave a nearby two-block residential stretch of Mansfield on either side of Coleman Road.
Half of the property owners had to vote to approve the districts. They then agree to pay 50 percent of the total costs. The county, by using federal grants aimed at decreasing dust pollution, pays the other 50 percent.
Paving will likely start next summer, said county RID administrator Pat Frankovic.
The residential portion of Mansfield passed with 83 percent approval. The business owners near Felts Field passed the proposal with a rate of 60 percent.
