Abandoned Car Yields Cremated Remains
Coeur d’Alene firefighters discovered the cremated remains of a child in a car on Friday while they were practicing extrication drills.
As soon as they found the ashes, firefighters called police and turned over the small box of remains, said Interim Fire Chief Kenny Gabriel.
Firefighters were practicing their drills at Fire Station No. 2 near the corner of Kathleen and Ramsey Road. The cars used in the drills were abandoned or forfeit vehicles donated by Kootenai County. The area is normally locked at night, Gabriel said.
