Home Builder Files Chapter 7
Spokane home-building company Wells Built Homes Inc. filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy Thursday.
The company owes $1,899,331 to 50 creditors. Of that debt, $179,231 is unsecured.
The company lists just $1,536,000 in assets. Chapter 7 bankruptcy entails liquidation of the company.
Wells Built Homes is owned by George Wells and his wife, Cheryl. They could not be reached for comment.
In 1996, George Wells served as president of the Spokane Home Builders Association. He has been a vocal critic of Spokane County land-use restrictions.
Most recently, Wells joined the Committee for Accountable Commissioners, a political action committee formed to oppose Spokane County Commissioners John Roskelley and Kate McCaslin in their campaigns for re-election.
Wells and Wells Built Homes, however, did not contribute any money to the PAC, which is financed solely by a $10,000 contribution from local developer Raymond Hanson.
A meeting between the company and its creditors is scheduled for July 26.
