Mission Ave. Project Scheduled To Be Completed By End Of July

Mission Avenue has begun to look like a real road again.

A sewer and road-widening project has closed Mission to through traffic between Pines and Woodruff roads for most of the spring.

The first layer of asphalt has gone in on both ends, and the entire project is on schedule to be open by the end of July, said Spokane County construction engineer Chad Coles.

The rest should be paved during the next few weeks.

Most of the work during the next week will center around Valley Mission Park.

The county plans to install a pedestrian stoplight at the west end of the parking lot across from the park.

Sidewalks will also run along the park. They were added after the initial construction contract had been awarded, so a date for sidewalk construction hasn’t been set, Coles said.

Motorists should expect construction at several other sites throughout the week:

A natural gas line being installed at Trent and Fancher will reduce through traffic along Trent to one lane in each direction. Detours will be in place for motorists wanting to make left turns from Trent onto Fancher.

The eastbound Argonne off-ramp on Interstate 90 reopened last weekend, but drivers should expect to continue to see construction crews on the ramp. The work should not close any travel lanes.

Work on the Evergreen interchange will reduce westbound I-90 traffic to one lane starting Saturday at 4 a.m. A second lane should open by late Saturday, but the restriction may extend into Sunday.

Drivers with loads over 10 feet wide should be alert for width restrictions on I-90 at Sprague Avenue next week. Vehicles with wide loads may be required to exit eastbound I-90 at Sprague Avenue and re-enter at Broadway.

The rough ride along portions of Highway 27 between 32nd Avenue and Freeman will continue this week while the state Department of Transportation works to repave the road.

Sullivan Road will remain under construction between 16th and 32nd avenues. Drivers should expect lane restrictions and delays.

A short stretch of Park Road from Sprague Avenue to Fourth Avenue will be down to one lane with flaggers at times next week as construction crews work on the Valley couplet.

Evergreen Road remains under construction and is open to through traffic only.

Work on University Road will continue as crews relocate utilities between Sprague and Mission, but the road will remain open.
