Post Falls Youths Win Baseball Competition

As many as 20 participants competed in the Diamond Skills Sectional Competition hosted by the Post Falls Parks and Recreation Department on June 14 at the Post Falls High School.

The top scorers will have their totals compared with winners from Washington, Oregon and Montana. The leaders are participating in a team competition today in Seattle at Safeco Field.

Diamond Skills, the official baseball skills competition for Major League Baseball, allows youths to showcase their talents in batting, fielding/throwing and base running with scores determined by individual performances.

Derek Donoian was the winner in the 7- and 8-year-old bracket, earning 262 points. Brett Winn, with 880 points was tops in the 9- and 10-year-old division and Dylan Moses was the finalist in the 11- and 12-year-old division with 1,084 points. Josh Bice will represent the 13- and 14-year-olds after scoring 1,058 points. All are from Post Falls.

Time is running out for those who want to participate in the Post Falls Parks and Recreation summer baseball program.

All youngsters ages 5-12 are encouraged to participate in the evening session that start July 10 and ends Aug. 17. The sessions go from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. or 6:45 to 8 p.m. on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday depending on age.

Those interested in coaching the evening program can sign up at the Parks and Recreation Department, 408 Spokane Street. The Cost is $16 per player for Post Falls city residents and $19 for non-residents. Call 773-0539 for more information.
