The local school district will likely get along with $90,000 less in state funds this fall than it did last, due to declining enrollment. If projections prove correct, the district could have 380 kids - 20 fewer students than usual. The board is acutely aware of the need for a new roof and other major maintenance worries on the aging elementary school and gymnasium, which will have to wait.

About 50 kids, most from Mead High School, found themselves guests of Lincoln County last week. The kids threw a huge kegger at Carp Lake, just north of Davenport. It took two hours to round up all the kids, most of whom fled into the woods. At least 30 cars of kids tried to attend, but saw the melee and left. Five of the advertised 15 kegs were confiscated.
