Autopsy Today In Baby’S Death

A 9-month-old baby girl died Saturday afternoon while in the care of a 17-year-old male, police said.

The girl’s mother left the child in the care of a baby sitter about 6 a.m. Saturday, police said. About noon, the sitter left the baby with the 17-year-old who lived in the child’s home in the 2500 block of West Mallon, according to police.

The mother told police she called the young man about 4 p.m., and he said the baby was sleeping.

The young man told police he checked on the baby at 5 p.m., and she wasn’t breathing. She was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police interviewed and then released the 17-year-old Saturday.

An autopsy is scheduled for today.

The mother’s second child, a two-year-old girl, was placed in protective care by Child Protective Services.
