Nominate Good Neighbor

These days, no one really expects much from their neighbor.

After all, everyone’s busy. We have hectic schedules, active children, and complicated lives.

But there are some neighbors who surpass our expectations and remind us of the importance of friendship and good will.

These neighbors are not too busy to console you over the loss of a loved one. They’ll offer to water the garden and feed your cats while you’re away. They’ll even show up at your kid’s baseball game from time to time.

It’s time to recognize the good neighbors who keep our communities vital, and the 11th annual SpokesmanReview Good Neighbor Contest gives you that chance.

We know you’ve been waiting for the opportunity to say thank you.

Send us a letter, up to 250 words, describing what makes your neighbor someone you can depend on.

We’ll pick one star from the North Side, South Side, and Valley. We’ll honor them with a plaque, a neighborhood barbecue, and a cover story in the Aug. 10 Voice.

You just need to send the letter. Be sure to include plenty of details, and remember your neighbor’s generosity should go beyond financial gifts.

All letters must be received by July 26.

Send your entry to Good Neighbor Contest, P.O. Box 2160, Spokane, WA 99210-1615. You can also send it via e-mail to goodneighbor@spokesman.com.

Yesterday you were telling a friend what a godsend your neighbor is. Now it’s time to tell the world.
